Get This Creative Party Started
If you’ve known me for a while, you know I’m a bit of a weirdo.
Figure I should just get that out of the way now.
I love crazy, unique and unconventional artwork – I always have.
What I have found throughout my time in the art world is that if you want to be or have something, you have to carve it out yourself. In fact, if you want anything bad enough you have to carve it out yourself. This has not been an easy lesson to learn; actually, there are parts of this art journey that have been downright frustrating and fury inducing. However without them I would not have had the opportunity to grow; and looking back at those shitty moments in time I find I can be grateful for them instead of looking back in regret or resentment.
Regardless of your life's pursuits, in order to be successful you need to acquire an unshakable mindset and clarity of vision.
It has taken me 30 years to learn this lesson – not everyone will understand your journey, and that’s okay. It’s very easy to listen to the doubt of people around you and let that doubt become yours. For me, my passion is the Arts, Creative people and entrepreneurs. It took some very tough lessons to reach this point in my creative career; if you take anything away from this post, I want it to be this:
You are the only person in control of your success.
I spent many years of my life surrounded by well-meaning friends and family, who criticized me for, “not having a job”, as if my life as an artist weren’t my “job”. In fact, some of my family members still say this to me. But I now know that those fears and doubts about MY life have everything to do with them and nothing to do with me. I was not able to push through all the bullshit until I changed my mindset; that the only person holding me back from being successful was myself. I was allowing outside influence about my capabilities affect me to the point of inaction.
As a creative person I find we are more susceptible to wavering because our traditional education system teaches a lack of value for the arts. But we are in an amazing and exciting time in the human existence! There are countless resources for artists and creative entrepreneurs on the Internet, so there is no excuse as to why you are still struggling. The most important thing you can do is to continue learning and growing. If you believe you will never be successful doing what you love, then you never will.
And so, I am so excited for all of you to come on this journey with me. Share your own stories in the comments; tell me what your goals and aspirations are; when have you faced struggles in your own creative path?
